Heater Core: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Discharge A/C system (if equipped).
3. Remove lower instrument panel module as follows:
a.
Remove steering column cover and silencer pad (if equipped).
b.
Remove ashtray and intermittent wipe control (if equipped) from bracket.
c.
Remove lower instrument panel module attaching screw, located to right of steering column at cluster bezel.
d.
Remove center air distribution duct attaching screws from bottom of lower instrument panel module.
e.
Remove panel support screw from bottom of lower instrument panel module.
f.
Remove lower instrument panel module attaching screw located near ashtray location.
g.
Open glove box door, then remove screws attaching top edge of lower instrument panel module.
h.
Move module rearward and down until sufficient room is obtained to remove wiring harness and antenna cable from clips.
i.
Disconnect speaker wires and glove box light switch wire, then remove module.
4. Remove heater A/C unit as follows:
a.
Remove center air distribution duct.
b.
Temporarily tape wiring harness aside.
c.
Remove antenna cable from retaining clip at right end of heater A/C unit.
d.
Disconnect blower motor lead wire, then remove terminal insulator retainer from heater A/C unit support brace.
e.
Disconnect demister hoses from tee at top of heater A/C unit.
f.
Disconnect vacuum hose harness connector, then the vacuum feed line.
g.
Disconnect temperature control cable flag retainer, then remove self-adjusting clip from blend air door crank.
h.
Drain engine cooling system, then disconnect refrigerant lines and remove expansion valve. Plug all openings to prevent contamination of
A/C system.
i.
Disconnect heater hoses, then plug heater core inlet and outlet openings.
j.
Remove A/C condenser drainage tube.
k.
Remove four heater A/C unit attaching nuts from rear engine compartment dash panel.
l.
Remove heater A/C unit support brace attaching screw, then swing brace to the left.
m.
Pull heater A/C unit rearward until attaching studs clear the dashboard, then allow unit to drop down. Rotate unit in such a way so the
attaching studs are facing downward, and remove unit.
5. Remove heater A/C unit top cover.
6. Remove heater core bracket attaching screw, then the heater core.
7. Reverse procedure to install.
