Crankshaft Main Bearing: Service and Repair
Crankshaft main bearings are not interchangeable and should be marked at removal to ensure correct assembly. Upper and lower bearing halves are
not interchangeable. Bearings are available in standard size and undersizes of 0.001, 0.002, 0.003, 0.010 and 0.012 inch.
Lower main bearing halves of No. 1 and 3 are interchangeable. Upper and lower No. 2 bearing halves are flanged to carry thrust loads and are not
interchangeable with any other bearing halves.
Install connecting rod bearings in pairs. Do not use a new bearing half with an old bearing half. Do not file rods or bearing caps. Ensure V-groove in
lower bearing shell is in line with V-groove in cap parting face.
Install shells with tangs in rod and cap machined grooves. Bearings are available in are available in 0.001, 0.002, 0.003, 0.010 and 0.012 inch
undersize.
