Keyless Entry Receiver: Description and Operation
SYSTEM OPERATION
The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) receiver is a radio frequency unit contained in the high-line version of the Central Timer Module (CTM). The
CTM also contains the program circuitry for the RKE system. The CTM is located under the passenger side end of the instrument panel, outboard
of the glove box.
The RKE receiver is energized by one of two messages from the RKE transmitter; Unlock, or Lock. The CTM circuitry responds to these
messages to lock or unlock the doors by energizing the power lock motors.
For diagnosis of the RKE receiver, the high-line CTM, or the CCD data bus, a DRE scan tool and the proper Diagnostic Procedures are
recommended. The RKE receiver is only serviced as a unit with the high-line CTM and, if faulty or damaged, the CTM unit must be replaced.
