Place the template on the left front wheel well splash shield. Align the template with the rear edge of the splash shield as indicated (Figure 2).

Cut the splash shield along the front edge of the template as indicated (Figure 2). Remove and discard the cutoff portion.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the right front wheel well splash shield. Use the reverse side of the template for cutting off the right side splash shield.
C. Inspect Front Brake Hoses/ABS Wheel Sensor Wires
(If Equipped):

Inspect the left and right front brake hoses for wear due to contact with the splash shield (Figure 2).

If there are no wear marks or only minor marks in the small ribs on the outer brake hose covering, no further action is required.

If the small ribs on the outer hose cover have been worn off (smooth outer hose cover surface), replace the affected brake hose and sealing
washers as follows:
A. To prevent excessive brake fluid loss, depress and hold the brake pedal using a brake pedal prop rod or cap the open brake line
connections.
B. Remove the front tire and wheel assembly.
C. Disconnect the brake hose from the brake tube and remove it from the frame bracket. (Remember to cap the brake tube if a brake pedal
prop was not used.)
D. Remove the brake hose bracket bolts.
E. Disconnect the brake hose banjo bolt from the caliper. Discard the brake hose assembly and copper washers.
F. Using new copper washers, install the new brake hose to the caliper. Tighten the banjo bolt to 170 in-lbs (19 N.m).
G. Install the brake hose bracket bolts. Tighten the bolts to 250 in-lbs (28 N.m).
H. Attach the brake hose to the frame bracket and connect the brake hose to the brake tube. Tighten the fitting to 145 in-lbs (16 N.m).
I.
Repeat Steps B - H for the other front brake hose, if necessary.
J. Bleed the affected front brake line(s) following the Service Manual Procedure and inspect for leaks.
K. Install the front tire and wheel assembly(s). Tighten the lug nuts to 75 ft-lbs (102 N.m).
