Fuel Tank Unit: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
WARNING: The fuel system is under a constant pressure (even with the engine off). Before servicing the fuel pump module, the fuel
system pressure must be released.
CAUTION: Whenever the fuel pump module is serviced, the locknut and gasket must be replaced.
1. Drain the fuel tank.
2. Remove fuel tank.

3. The plastic fuel pump module locknut is threaded onto the fuel tank. Install Special Tool 6856 to the fuel pump module locknut and remove
locknut. The fuel pump module will spring up when the locknut is removed.
4. Remove module from fuel tank.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Whenever the fuel pump module is serviced, the locknut and gasket must be replaced.
1. Using a new gasket, position fuel pump module into the opening in fuel tank.
2. Position a new locknut over the top of fuel pump module.
3. Install Special Tool 6856 onto the locknut.
4. Tighten locknut to 54 N.m (40 ft. lbs.) torque.
5. Install fuel tank.
