SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
On some Dodge Dakotas with the 9" drum rear brakes, customers may complain of a loud moan/howl noise coming from rear brakes. This noise occurs
frequently on medium deceleration stops from speeds about 20 mph, and is loudest near the end of a stop.
DIAGNOSIS:
Road test vehicle and verify that noise does exist and is coming from one or both rear wheels.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This repair procedure involves installation of dampener weights on the rear brake backing plates. Illustrations used for this procedure show the brake
hardware removed for clarity. Hardware need not be removed for this procedure.
1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Remove both rear wheel and tire assemblies.
3.
Remove rear brake drums.
4.
Vacuum clean brake assemblies as required by OSHA standards.
5.
Cover brake shoe assemblies as required to prevent contamination from drilling.
