Tone Wheel Replacement

NOTE:  If necessary to replace exciter ring on models with anti-lock brakes, the following procedure should be performed after disassembly of the
differential.

1.  Raise vehicle and remove differential case from vehicle.
2.  Using a hammer and drift punch, drive exciter ring from case.
3.  Heat replacement exciter ring with a heat lamp or by immersing in a hot fluid. The temperature should not exceed 300 °F (149 °C). 

CAUTION:  Do not use a torch to heat the exciter ring.

4.  Quickly drop the heated exciter ring into place against the shoulder of the differential case.

TONE WHEEL SERVICE

The tone wheels on the disc brake rotor hub or front axle shaft are not serviceable parts.

On 4-wheel drive models, it will be necessary to replace the axle shaft if the tone wheel is damaged.

On 2-wheel drive models, it will be necessary to replace the hub and rotor assembly if the tone wheel is damaged.
