Pinion Gear: Service and Repair
Chrysler Drive Axle Service
1. Select pinion gear adjustment gauge set C-3715-B and continue the assembly: Insert both pinion gear bearing cups into the housing (ensure that
they are not cocked). 7 1/4-inch axles, position Locating Spacer (SP3244) over the shaft of Gauge Set (SP-5385). Follow it with the pinion rear
bearing. Position the tools (with the bearing) in the housing. Install Shaft Locating Sleeve (SP-3245). Install the pinion front bearing, Compression
Sleeve (SP3194-B), Centralizing Washer (SP-534) and Compression Nut (SP-3193). 8 1/4-inch diameter ring gear axles, position Locating Spacer
(SP-6030) over the shaft of Tool (SP5385). Follow it with the pinion rear bearing. Position the tools (with the bearing) in the differential housing.
Install Shaft Locating Sleeve (SP-5382). Install the pinion front bearing, Washer (SP-6022), Compression Sleeve (SP-3194-B). Install Centralizing
Washer (SP534) followed by Compression Nut (SP-3193).
2. Prevent compression sleeve tool from turning with Wrench C-3281. Tighten the nut to seat the pinion bearing cups in the housing. Allow the
sleeve to turn several times during the tightening to prevent brinelling the bearing cups or the bearings.
