Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Electronic: Service and Repair

Idle Speed Control (ISC) Actuator

1.

Remove the air cleaner assembly.

2.

Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.

3.

Disconnect the 4-way electrical connector from the ISC actuator.

4.

Remove the attaching nuts from the ISC actuator.

5.

Remove the ISC actuator from its bracket.

6.

Install the ISC actuator with mounting nuts and washers.

7.

Connect the 4-way wiring connector to the ISC actuator.

8.

START the vehicle and allow to run for two minutes.

9.

Shut the vehicle OFF and wait for 60 seconds.  During the 60 seconds the ISC will extend completely.

10.

After the 60 seconds, disconnect the 4-way ISC actuator electrical connector.  Disconnect the 2-way coolant temperature sensor electrical
connection.

11.

Connect a tachometer to the engine.  See tachometer manufacturers instructions for installation.

12.

START the vehicle.

Idle Speed Control (ISC) Actuator Adjustment

13.

Adjust the extension screw on the actuator shaft until the engine rpm is between 2750 and 2850 rpm.

14.

Turn the engine OFF.

15.

Reconnect both the coolant temperature sensor and the ISC actuator electrical connectors, and erase any fault codes that may have been set.
