Severe Reduction In RKE Signal Range On Vehicles Equipped With Remote Start
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves verifying the electrical connection between the Wireless Control Module (WCM) and the antenna lead for the remote start I
keyless entry system.

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with the Remote Start System (sales code XBM) and built prior to February 01, 2007 (MDH 0201XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may notice that the signal range of the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system is reduced. The RKE key fob may need to be closer than 3
meters (10 feet) before the functions available on the key fob will operate. This condition may be due to a damaged or loose antenna lead connector at
the Wireless Control Module (WCM).
DIAGNOSIS:
1.
Using the vehicle key fob and standing outside of the vehicle, verify that the RKE system operates properly when standing 6 meters (20 feet) away
from the left front (drivers) door. Does the RKE system operate properly?
a.
If YES >> then proceed to the next step.
b.
If NO >> then proceed to step 3.
2.
Using the vehicle key fob and standing outside of the vehicle, verify that the RKE system operates properly when standing 30 meters (100 feet)
away from the left front (drivers) door. Does the RKE system operate properly?
a.
If YES >> then STOP. The RKE system is operating correctly.
b.
If NO >> then perform the Repair Procedure.
3.
Sit in the driver seat. Using the key fob, do the RKE system functions operate properly?
a.
If YES >> then perform the Repair Procedure.
b.
If NO >> then this bulletin does not apply. Further diagnosis is required of the vehicle key fob(s) and/or WCM.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1.
Remove instrument panel / steering column trim components to obtain access to the WCM.
2.
Located on the body of the WCM is a coax connection for the antenna electrical lead. Pull on the antenna lead to determine if the coax connection
is properly connected to the WCM.
