Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Description and Operation
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Description
W/ ESC
The coolant sensor, located on the thermostat housing, gives the computer information on engine temperature. A signal is supplied to the computer
which will cause the spark plugs to fire at a fixed amount of advance during cranking only. Amount of advance is determined by the position of the start
pick-up coil. The run pick-up coil functions the same except that its signal is not recognized during engine cranking.
W/ Single Point Fuel Injection
The coolant temperature sensor, located in the thermostat housing, provides the logic module with information on engine operating temperature. This
data, in conjunction with data provided by the charge temperature switch, permits the logic module to provide slightly richer air/fuel mixtures and higher
idle speeds until normal operating temperatures are reached.
With SMEC/SBEC
The coolant temperature sensor, mounted near the thermostat housing, monitors coolant temperature and provides engine operating temperature data
to the SMEC or SBEC. The sensor, which is a variable resistor, is also used to turn on the radiator fan.
