Evaporator Case: Service and Repair
Heater-A/C Housing Removal and Installation
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
1. Discharge the air-conditioner refrigerant system.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
3. Drain coolant from cooling system.
4. Remove air-conditioner expansion valve.
5. Disconnect heater hoses from heater core and plug tubes to prevent spilling coolant on interior of vehicle during unit removal.
6. Remove condensate drain tube.
7. Disconnect vacuum lines from water valve and vacuum supply nipple.
8. Remove unit to dash panel attaching nuts.
9. Remove passenger side front seat.
10. Remove right side cowl trim panel.
11. Remove body computer.
12. Remove glove box module.
13. Remove right lower instrument panel reinforcement brace and the support bracket at the left end of the brace.
14. Remove radio capacitor, lamp outage module, and security alarm module.
15. Using a suitable cutting device, cut the instrument panel along the indented line in the padded cover to the right of the glove box opening. Cut only
plastic, not metal. Remove the reinforcement and piece of instrument panel that is riveted to it.
16. Remove right and left under panel silencers.
17. Reach through glove box opening and disconnect demister hoses from the top of the unit.
18. Disconnect radio antenna cable.
19. Disconnect blower motor wire connectors.
20. Disconnect blend air door control cable from unit and position out of the way.
21. Roll floor carpet from under unit far enough to avoid restricting unit removal.
22. Remove lower steering column cover and reinforcement.
23. Remove lower reinforcement support bracket from the side of the steering column opening to the left of the radio.
24. Remove the air distribution duct and defroster adapter through opening at left side of instrument panel.
25. Remove hanger strap from the unit end and swing the strap to the left, out of the way.
26. Remove unit from under right side of instrument panel.
To install, reverse the preceding operation, evacuate and charge the refrigerant system.
