REMOVAL

1. Remove instrument panel lower cover.
2. Unfasten steering shaft boot flange and slide upward for access of U-joint.
3. Mark intermediate shaft and steering shaft for installation reference.
4. Remove shaft through bolt.
5. In engine compartment, pry out splash shield clips using a suitable screwdriver.
6. Fold back lock tab (10) on bolts (11) that attach tie rods to steering rack, then loosen bolts one or two turns.
7. Remove power steering pump lines from rubber mounting block and disconnect lines from steering gear. 

NOTE:  Replace O-rings on disconnected lines during installation.

8. Remove mounting nut.
9. Raise and support vehicle.

10. Remove left front wheel and tire assembly, then disconnect tie rod ends from steering knuckles using a suitable tool.
11. Remove three bolts attaching steering gear to vehicle body and slide steering gear assembly through access opening in left fender panel.

INSTALLATION

1. Attach tie rods to steering gear. Do not tighten completely at this time.
2. Install gear assembly through access opening in left fender panel and install gear to body mounting bolts and nuts.
3. Connect tie rod ends to steering knuckle, torque retaining nut to specifications.
4. Connect fluid lines with new O-rings to steering gear.
5. Install fluid lines into rubber mounting block.
6. Torque tie rod to steering gear attaching bolts to specifications, then bend lock tabs over tie rod bolt heads.
7. Align and connect intermediate shaft and steering gear shaft with reference marks made during removal.
8. Install and torque intermediate shaft coupling bolt to specifications.
9. Install steering shaft boot.

10. Fill power steering system to proper level.
