Canister Purge Solenoid: Description and Operation
Canister Purge Solenoid
The canister purge solenoid, used on some vehicles with 4 cylinder, fuel injected engines, is controlled by the logic module. When engine temperature
is below 145°F, the logic module grounds the purge solenoid, energizing it. This prevents vacuum from reaching the charcoal canister valve. When
engine temperature reaches 145°F, the logic module de-energizes the solenoid by turning the ground off. Once this occurs, vacuum will flow to the
canister purge valve and purge fuel vapors through the throttle body.
