Starter Relay: Testing and Inspection
Chrysler Reduction Gear Starters
VEHICLES W/AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
1.
Place shift lever in Neutral, then connect jumper wire on starter relay between battery and ignition terminals.
2.
If engine does not crank, connect a second jumper wire on starter relay between ground terminal and good ground.
3.
If engine now cranks, transmission linkage is improperly adjusted or neutral safety switch is defective.
4.
If engine still does not crank, replace starter relay.
VEHICLES W/MANUAL TRANSMISSION
1.
Have assistant depress clutch pedal.
2.
Connect jumper wire on starter relay between battery and ignition terminals.
3.
If engine does not crank, connect second jumper wire on starter relay between ground terminal and good ground.
4.
If engine cranks, clutch neutral start switch is improperly adjusted or defective. If engine does not crank, replace starter relay.
