Thermostat: Description and Operation
Engine Coolant Thermostat - Description
THERMOSTAT
CAUTION: Do not operate an engine without a thermostat, except for servicing or testing.
All engines use a wax pellet (3), reverse poppet choke type thermostat that controls the operating temperature of the engine by controlling the amount of
coolant flow to the radiator. On all engines the thermostat is closed below 90°C (195°F). This provides for quick engine warm up and overall
temperature control.
The thermostat on the 5.7L engine is located beneath the thermostat housing (1) at the front of the intake manifold.
The thermostat on the 3.7L/4.7L engines is located beneath the thermostat housing the lower LH front of the engine.
