Fluid - A/T: Service and Repair
Fluid Level Check
FLUID LEVEL CHECK
The 2 - Mode EVT transmission uses special Dexron VI oil. Do not use Chrysler MS-9602 oil in the 2 - Mode EVT.
A service dipstick, (dipstick 9336A) is required to check the oil level in the 2 - Mode EVT transmission. The fill tube is located on the right side of the
engine and is accessed through the right front wheel well. To avoid contaminating the transmission fluid, make sure to clean all dirt and debris from the
fill tube cap and around the fill tube opening before removing the fill tube cap. The torque damper fills with fluid in both the P (Park) and N
(Neutral)positions. Place the selector lever in P (PARK) to make sure that the fluid level check is accurate. The engine should be running at idle speed
for at least one minute with the vehicle on level ground. At normal operating temperature the fluid level is correct if it is at the level shown in the
table below on the service dipstick.
After the fluid has been checked, seat the fill tube cap fully on the fill tube opening to seal out contaminants.
CAPPED FILL TUBE
WARNING: This vehicle has two modes of operation. Even with the gas engine off, the vehicle is still capable of moving in electric only mode.
When the engine is running, there is also the risk of personal injury or property damage from the vehicle unintentionally being
placed into a drive gear and moving. Verify the parking brake is operating correctly, and apply the parking brake while checking
the transmission fluid level. There is a risk of injury from rotating or hot parts on the engine when it has been run or when it is
running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving off by itself. Wear properly fastened and close-fitting work clothes. Do not
touch hot or rotating parts.
1. Verify that the vehicle is parked on a level surface. Apply the parking brake.
2. Turn the key on and connect the scan tool to the data link connector.
3. Remove the fill tube cap.
4. Start the engine and let it run at idle speed in the selector lever position "P" until the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
5. Apply and hold the service brake. Shift the transmission into DRIVE for approximately two seconds with the vehicle stationary and the engine
idling.
6. Shift the transmission into REVERSE for approximately two seconds with the vehicle stationary and the engine idling.
7. Shift the transmission into park.
8. Use the scan tool to view the transmission fluid temperature sensor.
9. Compare the transmission fluid temperature shown on the scan tool with the transmission fluid level chart.
10. Adjust the transmission fluid level shown on the dipstick according to the transmission fluid temperature chart.
NOTE: After adding fluid to the transmission, wait a minimum of two minutes for the oil to fully drain from the fill tube into the transmission
before rechecking the fluid level.
