Fuel Pressure Release: Service and Repair
FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE - HEV
WARNING: On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, you must thoroughly read and follow all High Voltage Safety procedures. In
addition, before performing any diagnostic or service procedure near a high voltage component, you must perform the High
Voltage Power Down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury See: Hybrid Drive
Systems/Battery System, Hybrid Drive/Service Precautions
Use the following procedure if the fuel injector rail is, or is not equipped with a fuel pressure test port.
1. Remove the fuel fill cap.
2. Remove the fuel pump relay or the fuel pump speed relay from the Power Distribution Center (PDC) (1), refer to the label on the underside of the
PDC cover for relay locations or See: Fuses and Circuit Breakers/Fuse/Locations/Fuse Panel
3. Start and run the engine until it stalls.
4. Attempt restarting the engine until it will no longer run.
5. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
6. Disconnect the 12 volt battery system ground isolation connector (1).
7. Perform the HEV high voltage power down procedure See: Hybrid Drive Systems/Battery System, Hybrid Drive/Service and Repair/Battery
System - High Voltage Power Down
NOTE: Excessive fuel spillage onto the gaskets can cause gaskets to expand and dislodge from gasket groove.
8. Place a rag or towel around the fuel line quick-connect fitting at the fuel rail to prevent residual fuel spray or spillage.
