SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Grinding or creaking noise maybe heard while the front windshield wipers are activated.
The noise can best be described as similar to a creaking noise made when walking over a wooden floor or the noise made by running a finger across the
teeth of a comb.
DIAGNOSIS:
NOTE:
THIS NOISE HAS PROVEN TO BE INTERMITTENT IN NATURE. IF THE CUSTOMER IS COMPLAINING ABOUT WIPER NOISE, BE
SURE TO LISTEN TO THE ACTIVATED WIPER SYSTEM WITH THE CUSTOMER TO VERIFY THE TYPE OF NOISE HEARD.
1.
With the engine OFF and the ignition key in the ON position, turn the front wiper system to ON in the LOW speed position.
2.
Listen for a creak or grinding noise coming from the wiper system.
3.
Turn the wipers OFF.
4.
Pivot the wiper arm up so that the wiper blades do not contact the windshield (Figure 1).
5.
Turn the windshield wipers on LOW.
6.
If the noise was eliminated with the wipers on LOW and the wiper blades not touching the windshield, perform the following Repair Procedure. If
the noise is not eliminated with the wipers on LOW and the wiper blades off the windshield, the cause of the noise is not likely covered by this
bulletin and further diagnosis will be required. Refer to the appropriate Service Manual, Group 8K.
