This Technical Service Bulletin covers a number of possible conditions that may create an objectionable turbulence and/or wind noise condition on
subject vehicles.
The vehicle must be road tested to determine the exact cause and pinpoint the area of customer complaint.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Wind noise and/or wind turbulence may be coming from either the B-pillar area or the A-pillar area or in some vehicles both areas.
DIAGNOSIS
B-Pillar Wind Noise
Wind noise coming from the upper glass frame and B-pillar area may be traced to one or more of the following areas:
A.
The foam tape, located at the top of the rear glass run, may be missing or has migrated.
B.
Sharp edges or a large step-off condition between the glass and the glass guide, or poor sealing along the upper 2" of the inside surface.
C.
Glass out of adjustment causing poor glass fit.
D.
B-pillar joint of flocked glass run to moulded corner may have a gaping condition on the outside leg which touches applique.
E.
A lack of butyl sealer along the flange especially at the two end areas.
F.
Turbulence at B-pillar applique caused by large gap between the applique and the channel area/or applique is sitting on top of daylight opening
moulding at top.
Wind noise coming from the A-pillar area may be traced to one or more of the following areas:
A.
V-gap from moulding to weatherstrip - along glass channel to inner A-pillar door frame.
B.
A-pillar door seal gaps are wide along door A-pillar area.
