Brake Fluid: Service and Repair
The hydraulic assembly is equipped with a plastic fluid reservoir with a filter/strainer in the filler neck.
The anti-lock brake system requires that the hydraulic accumulator be depressurized when checking the fluid level. To check the brake fluid level, the
following procedure should be used:
1.
With the ignition off, depressurize the hydraulic accumulator by applying the brake pedal approximately 25 times, using a pedal force of
approximately 50 lbs. (220 N). A noticeable change in pedal feel will occur when the accumulator is depressurized. Continue to apply the pedal
several times after this change in pedal feel occurs.
2.
Thoroughly clean the reservoir cap and surrounding area, prior to cap removal, to avoid getting dirt into the reservoir.
3.
Inspect the fluid level, see instructions on side of reservoir (to top of the white screen in filter/strainer).
4.
Fill reservoir to top of white screen in filter/strainer as required. Use brake fluid conforming to DOT 3.
5.
Replace reservoir cap.
