Power Window Switch: Testing and Inspection

1. Test the left front door master switch as follows: 

a. Remove the switch from its mounting. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. Leave the wiring harness connected to the switch and connect

a test light between the TN wire and BK wire.

If the test light does not come on or is dim, check the circuit breaker and the wiring to the left door switch.

If the test light comes on, go to step 1b.

b. Move the lockout switch (if applicable) to the OFF position. Move the master switch through all window positions and check for power available

at the proper wire terminals:
Front Doors
LB  left up
WT  left down
BR  right up
VT  right down

Rear Doors
DB   left up
RD*  left down
GY   right up
DG   right down

If the power output from the master switch is correct, reinstall the master switch to its mounting and go to step 2.

If the power output from the master switch is incorrect, the master switch is defective.

2. To test a right (or rear) door switch:

a. Remove the switch from its mounting. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the switch. Connect a test light between the YL wire and a

known good ground.

If the test light does not come on or is dim, check the circuit breaker and the wiring from the master switch to the door switch.

^

If the test light comes on bright, go to step 2b.

b. Connect jumper wires joining the two right hand wires and joining the two left hand wires. These jumper wires take the place of the switch in the

inactive position. Operate the power windows from the master switch.

If the window operates properly, the right (or rear) door switch is defective.

If the window does not operate properly, test the window motor.
