Grand Caravan L4-2.4L DOHC (1996)
Wheel Speed Sensor: Service and Repair
Front
1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheel.
2. Remove two bolts securing cable channel bracket and grommet retainer to outer frame rail, then pull cable grommet and connector through hole in
strut tower.
3. Disconnect sensor cable from wiring harness, then remove wheel speed sensor head to steering knuckle bolt.
4. Remove sensor head from steering knuckle.
NOTE: If sensor has corroded and seized, do not use pliers to loosen. Use a suitable punch and hammer to tap edge of sensor ear and rock side to
side until free.
5. Remove sensor grommets from retaining bracket, then remove sensor assembly from vehicle.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. When installing sensor cable, ensure it is installed properly in retainer and is not pinched.
b. Torque cable channel bracket bolts to 8 ft. lbs. and speed sensor bolt to 9 ft. lbs.
c. Clearance between sensor and tone wheel should be 0.014-0.059 inch and tone wheel runout must not exceed 0.006 inch.
d. Road test vehicle after installation to ensure ABS and base brake systems function properly.
