Repair Procedure

This bulletin involves installing revised rear shocks and/or aligning the exhaust system and/or installing a revised resonator hanger/isolator and/or
installing fuel tank pads and/or installing revised sway bar bushings and/or torquing front suspension component attaching hardware.

Repair Procedure 1

Repair Procedure 1 - Shock Absorber Replacement

1.

With the vehicle on a frame contact hoist, position a jack stand under the rear axle so it just comes into contact with the rear axle.

2.

Begin removal of the lower rear shock absorber bolt. If the bolt deflects upward or downward, adjust the jack stand accordingly. Remove the
lower rear shock bolt.

3.

While holding the rear shock, remove the upper rear shock bolt, then remove the shock from the vehicle.

4.

Install a revised rear shock as specified in the Parts Required section of this bulletin.

5.

Repeat steps 2 thru 4 for the other side rear shock.

6.

Remove the jack stand from under the rear axle and vehicle. Lower the vehicle.

Repair Procedure 2

Repair Procedure 2 - Exhaust System Alignment

1.

With the vehicle on a frame contact hoist, mark the exhaust pipe to muffler inlet joint so the amount of engagement is indicated. Loosen the
muffler inlet clamp. Use Mopar Rust Penetrant (P/N 4318039) if the threads are rusted. Shake the pipe to loosen the joint. While pushing up on the
muffler inlet clamp, and being sure to maintain exhaust pipe to muffler inlet joint overlap, tighten the clamp to 65 ft. lbs. (88 Nm).

2.

For vehicles built prior to Oct. 15, 1995 (MDH 1015XX), replace the resonator hanger/isolator assembly with P/N 4809066. Torque the fastener
to 250 in. lbs. (28 Nm).

3.

Torque the muffler hanger fasteners to 250 in. lbs. (28 Nm).

Repair Procedure 3

Repair Procedure 3 - Fuel Tank Pads

1.

Remove the fuel filler cap and the three screws holding the filler tube to the body.

2.

Raise the vehicle on an appropriate hoist.

3.

Remove the three screws attaching the filler tube blocker to the body, and separate the blocker from the vehicle.

4.

Use a transmission jack to support the fuel tank. Remove the four fuel tank support strap bolts and straps.

5.

Lower the fuel tank approximately 6 in. (150 mm).
