Fuel System - Slow Fuel Tank Fill/Early Nozzle Shut Off

SUBJECT:
Slow Fuel Tank Fill or Premature Filler Nozzle Shut Off

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting fuel vapor recirculation tube for a kink and if necessary, replace the fuel vapor recirculation tube.

NOTE

This bulletin applies to vehicles built before February 22, 2008 (MDH0222XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The vehicle operator may experience the fuel tank is slow to fill and/or fuel filler nozzle shuts off prematurely.

DIAGNOSIS:

If the vehicle operator describes the Symptom/Condition perform the following steps to diagnose:

1.

Raise the vehicle on a suitable hoist.

2.

Support the fuel tank from below.

WARNING:

Support fuel tank with a transmission jack or equivalent. Use straps to secure the fuel tank to the jack. Failure to properly support and secure the fuel
tank during inspection may cause fuel to spill or fuel tank to fall from jack assembly.

3.

Loosen the fuel tank rear strap bolts and lower the tank just far enough to inspect the fuel vapor recirculation tube attached to the top of the fuel
tank and connects to the recirculation jumper assembly (Fig. 1).
