Emissions Maintenance Light: Description and Operation
Emission Maintenance Required (EMR) Lamp Operation
The PCM, keeps track of vehicle mileage by monitoring the vehicle distance (speed) sensor, and illuminates the Emissions Maintenance Reminder
(EMR) lamp at 60,000 miles, 82,500 miles, and 120,000 miles, to inform driver that emission system maintenance is required.
After recommended maintenance has been performed the mileage counter in PCM must be reset [1]. Reseting EMR light without performing the
required maintenance may be in violation of federal law. Only after performing required maintenance, should the EMR light be reset.
