Repeated Failure of Fusible Link

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some vehicles may experience an intermittent short in the cooling fan motor that causes the A16 200R fusible link to go open circuit. Replacement of the
fusible link is not a permanent repair when this condition exists. Failure of this fusible link results in the loss of cooling fan and air conditioning clutch
operation.
DIAGNOSIS:
1.
Remove the high speed fan control relay (refer to Figure 1) from its connector and check for continuity between battery positive and relay cavity
labeled A16 12GY (refer to Figure 2). If there is continuity the fusible link is good and this Technical Service Bulletin does not apply, refer to the
1993 Powertrain Diagnostic Manual (Publication Number 81-699-0304) for further diagnosis.
2.
Using an ohmmeter set to the low ohms range, connect the two probes together. This will measure the resistance of the meter leads. Allow the
reading to settle to a fixed reading. Record the reading.
3.
Attach one meter probe to battery negative and the other probe to the high speed fan control relay connector cavity labeled C25 12LG (refer to
Figure 1 and 2). Make sure the probes have a solid attachment, the vehicle will be bounced later in the procedure. Read the resistance and subtract
