Backing Plate: Service and Repair
Removal
1. Raise vehicle on jackstands or centered on a frame contact type hoist.
2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove rear brake drum.
5. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the park brake actuation lever.
6. Remove the rear wheel speed sensor from the rear hub/bearing flange. This will prevent damage to the speed sensor during removal and
installation of the hub/bearing assembly. The rear wheel speed sensor bolts to the hub/bearing assembly. It can not be removed unless speed sensor
is removed first.
CAUTION: When working in the area of the rear hub/bearing assembly and removing it, care must be taken not to damage the teeth on the tone
wheel. Damage to the teeth of the tone wheel will result in false ABS cycling and corrosion of the tone wheel.
7. Remove the 4 bolts attaching the hub/bearing assembly to the flange of the rear axle.
