Scratching Like Sound From The Instrument Panel Area
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves adding a bypass hose to the front heater core coolant inlet and outlet.

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to left hand drive vehicles equipped with a 3.3L engine, sales code EGA or EGM, and air conditioning, sales code HAA, or
HAD, built on or before July 6, 2005 (MDH 0706XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
A scratching like sound coming from behind the instrument panel above 5,000 rpm during Wide Open Throttle (WOT) acceleration. The sound may be
caused by coolant flow cavitation within the heater core.
DIAGNOSIS:
1.
Check the coolant recovery bottle for proper level. Adjust as necessary.
2.
Test drive the vehicle and listen for the sound at the instrument panel area. The sound is prevalent above 500 rpm just prior to the first to second,
or second to third gear up shift when accelerating at WOT.
3.
If the sound can be confirmed, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1.
Open the hood.
2.
Partially drain the cooling system to a level below the heater hoses, into a suitable clean container.
3.
Cut the heater core inlet hose completely through 63.5 - 76.2 mm (2.5 - 3.0 in.) from the heater core tube end of the hose.
