Remove the fuel tank support and lower the vehicle. Return the vehicle to the customer, no further action is required.
B. Replace Fuel Tank
NOTE:
Only fuel tanks with weld beads that cross or are near the "RGV" tank marking, as determined by the inspection in Section A, require replacement.
Only half of the involved vehicles are expected to require fuel tank replacement.
1.
Raise the fuel tank into position.
2.
Install the tank mounting strap bolts.
3.
Remove the fuel tank support and lower the vehicle.
4.
Open the hood.
5.
Remove the Power Distribution Center (PDC) cover.
6.
Remove the fuel pump relay from the PDC.
7.
Start the engine and let it run until it runs out of fuel, then attempt to start the engine 2 or 3 more times.
8.
Install the fuel pump relay into the PDC.
9.
Install the PDC cover.
10.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
NOTE:
To enhance customer satisfaction, remember to reset the clock when you have completed the service procedure.

Raise the vehicle on the hoist.
12.
Disconnect the fuel filler ground strap from the fuel filler tube blocker bracket and remove the blocker bracket (Figure 3).
13.
Disconnect the fuel filler hose from the metal fuel filler tube. Do NOT disconnect the fuel filler hose from the fuel tank.
14.
Insert a siphon hose into the fuel filler hose and push it into the fuel tank.
15.
Drain the fuel from the tank into an appropriate gasoline storage container.
