Deck Lid Torsion Bar Tension
THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 23-35-96 DATED MAY 31, 1996 WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM
YOUR FILES AND NOTED IN THE 1996 TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN MANUAL (PUBLICATION NO. 81-699-97010). ALL REVISIONS
ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS** AND INCLUDE PART, REPAIR PROCEDURE AND MODEL ADDITIONS.

(LH) Intrepid
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Owners whose vehicles are frequently parked on steep inclines (front of vehicle higher than rear), exposed to high winds or snow build-up on deck lid, or
have installed an aftermarket deck lid spoiler may experience a tendency for the deck lid to close too easily (not remain open) from full open position.
DIAGNOSIS:
If owner complains of or vehicle exhibits any of these conditions, perform the Repair Procedure.

**REPAIR PROCEDURE:**
This bulletin involves adjusting and/or replacing the deck lid torsion bars with revised parts.
1.
Inspect the torsion bar setting as shown in Figure 1. If torsion bars are not set one notch beyond the "HIGH" setting use a vise grip locked on the
end of the torsion bar and move the bar to the highest setting. If more tension is desired or torsion bars are already set one notch beyond the
"HIGH" setting, proceed to step # 2.
2.
Support deck lid with a suitable prop device.
WARNING:
USE EXTREME CARE WHEN PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING STEP. THE TORSION BARS ARE UNDER GREAT PRESSURE AND
CAN RELEASE SUDDENLY, POSSIBLY CAUSING PERSONAL INJURY.
3.
Using a vice grip plier locked on the end of the torsion bar, release bar from adjustment groove on hinge.
4.
Disengage torsion bar from hinge on opposite side of vehicle.
