Air Bag: Service and Repair
Passenger Side Airbag Module Replacement

Prior to performing service procedure, disarm air bag system as described under Air Bag System Disarming & Arming at Air Bag Systems/ Service
and Repair. Failure to disarm air bag system could result in system deployment and personal injury.

Undeployed

1. Disarm air bag.
2. Open glove compartment, then push side inward to allow door bumper to pass and allow box to open fully.

Passenger's Air Bag Module Removal

3. Remove lower instrument panel attaching screws inside glove compartment.
4. Remove lower instrument panel and right spot cooler.
5. Disconnect air bag module wire connector.
6. Remove air bag module mounting screws, then lift module up and turn it so it can be lowered through mounting brackets.
7. Reverse procedure to install.

Deployed

1. Disarm air bag.
2. Roll/fold air bag toward instrument panel.
3. Close door over folded bag and tape door closed.
4. Open both vehicle doors and remove both instrument panel end covers.
5. Remove floor console, if equipped, or instrument panel lower center cover and ash receiver.
6. Remove radio ground strap screw at center support bracket side. Note strap routing for proper installation and radio operation.
7. Open glove compartment and push side inward to allow door bumper to pass and allow box to open fully.
8. Remove lower instrument panel attaching screws inside glove compartment opening, then remove center support bracket nuts at ash tray area.
9. Remove center outlet and righthand bezel opening screws.

10. Remove instrument panel end cover and cowl side screws, then detach lower instrument panel from upper panel with steering column in tilt-up

position.

11. Disconnect trunk release switch. glove compartment light switch, radio/antenna, heater-A/C and ash tray receiver light connectors.
12. Remove lower instrument panel assembly and lefthand silencer/duct under instrument panel, then instrument panel top cover, right and lefthand

A-pillar trim panels.

13. Remove body control module at righthand end of instrument panel and lefthand outlet duct.
14. Remove steering column shrouds and disconnect electrical connectors, then slide wiring retainer off trough and stow wiring away from steering

column.

15. Loosen steering column lower screws and upper nuts, the lay column on floor.
16. Disconnect power antenna and cable at righthand cowl side, body wiring at righthand end of A/C, ATC center unit, ground wire at lefthand center

support, DRB at lefthand brace, air bag diagnostic module, in-line bracket connector including 40-way jack screw and hazard relay, outboard
junction block and headline top panel connectors.

17. Remove center support bracket and cowl side panel attach bolts, then top panel attaching bolts.
18. Remove upper instrument panel rearward off lower attaching studs.
19. Reverse procedure to install and torque air bag module to collar bracket mounting screws to 35 inch lbs. and module to knee bolster attaching

screws to 20 inch lbs.
