THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 07-06-94 DATED SEPT. 2, 1994 WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM
YOUR FILES AND NOTED IN THE 1994 TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN MANUAL (PUBLICATION NO.81-699-95054). ADDITIONAL
MODELS, REVISED PARTS AND PROCEDURES HAVE BEEN ADDED. ALL CHANGES ARE MARKED WITH **ASTERISKS**.

**NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE DEC. 31, 1995 (MDH-12-31-XX) EQUIPPED WITH A 3.5L ENGINE**.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
An audible "beat/boom" sound inside the passenger compartment when the vehicle is idling in drive, A/C on and the fan module is operating on high
speed. This may also be described as poor idle quality.
DIAGNOSIS:
Many factors can contribute to this noise and vibration conditions. Use the following procedure to identify a noisy fan module.
1.
Run vehicle with A/C off and cardboard between the radiator and condenser.
2.
Using the DRB III, monitor coolant temperature and coolant fan mode.
3.
Allow coolant temperature to rise to approximately 230 degrees F wherein the high speed fan will come on (to accelerate coolant temperature rise,
run the engine at 2000 - 2500 RPM).
4.
Remove cardboard.
5.
Compare noise/vibration inside the closed vehicle, while idling in drive, under the following conditions:

High speed fan on.

High and low speed fans off (engine only), which occurs when coolant temperature drops below 200 degrees F.
6.
If noise/vibration occurs only when the fans are on low or off, the problem may be caused by the engine. Perform the appropriate engine
diagnostics. If the noise increases when the fans are on high speed, perform the Repair Procedure.

TO ADDRESS IDLE QUALITY CONDITIONS, REFER TO THE TSB'S LISTED BELOW AND PERFORM THE REPAIRS AS
NECESSARY.
