Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair

The condenser is located between the radiator and the front bumper. The condenser can be serviced without having to drain the cooling system or
remove the radiator.

REMOVAL

Negative Battery Cable Remote Terminal

1. Open hood and disconnect the negative battery cable remote terminal from the remote battery post.
2. Using a refrigerant recovery machine, remove refrigerant from the A/C system.
3. Partially drain engine coolant enough to not spill any when the radiator is removed.
4. Remove five push pin fasteners retaining the center front fascia.
5. Remove two right wheel well push pin fasteners retaining front fascia.
6. Remove right headlamp housing. Refer to Lighting and Horns /Lamps for Removal and Installation procedure.
7. Remove two push pin fasteners to air flow deflectors.
8. Remove upper radiator core support.
9. Remove four retaining bolts, one upper clip and one electrical connector to radiator fan module.

NOTE:  Remove two cooler lines to auxiliary engine oil cooler and the hose retainer.

10. Maneuver radiator fan module out of front engine compartment.
11. Loosen bracket retaining engine oil cooler lines.
12. Remove spring type clamp to upper radiator hose at upper radiator.
13. Remove spring type clamp to lower radiator hose at lower radiator.
14. Remove upper hose to auxiliary transmission cooler.
15. Remove one upper bolt to A/C suction line to compressor.
16. Remove one bolt to lower A/C suction line from evaporator to condenser.
17. Remove one auxiliary transmission cooler return line.
18. Remove module from vehicle and place on bench.
19. With module on bench, remove one bolt to auxiliary transmission cooler tube assembly.
20.  Remove auxiliary transmission cooler line to radiator assembly cooler.
21. Remove two bolts retaining condenser to radiator.
22. Separate condenser from radiator.
23. Transfer auxiliary transmission cooler to new condenser. Clip old zip ties off and remove cooler assembly.

NOTE:  The new condenser will include new zip ties for the auxiliary trans mission cooler attachment to new condenser assembly.

CAUTION:  Avoid bending or breaking condenser inlet tube when lifting radiator/condenser assembly from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION

For installation, reverse the above procedures.
