Speed Control Switch: Testing and Inspection

Rear Wheel Drive Models

1. Check fuse for continuity.
2. Disconnect four wire electrical connector at steering column.
3. Connect a suitable 12 volt power source to black wire terminal of switch harness connector.
4. Attach one lead of a suitable test lamp to ground, then attach the second lead to yellow wire terminal. Test lamp should illuminate with speed

control switch in "on" position. Test lamp should be off when set button is depressed, or when speed control switch is in "off" position.

5. Attach test lamp lead to dark blue wire. Test lamp should illuminate with slide switch in "on" position and be off with slide switch in "off"

position.

6. Attach test lead to white wire. Test lamp should be off with slide switch in "on" position, illuminate when set button is depressed, and be off when

switch is released. Test lamp should illuminate when slide switch is moved to "Resume" position, and go off when slide switch is released.

7. Replace speed control switch if test lamp does not respond as indicated.

1986-87 Mini-Vans/Wagons

    When performing this test, wires will be referred to by their position in the electronic module electrical connector, beginning with the black
ground wire as pin No. 1 and counting rearward to pin No. 9.

1. Unfasten electronic module from below right side instrument panel and position aside, leaving wiring connected.
2. Connect negative lead of a voltmeter to chassis ground.
3. Connect voltmeter positive lead to pin No. 2 of module electrical connector. With speed control switch in the Off position, voltmeter should

indicate zero voltage with the Set button released and 12 volts with the Set button depressed. With speed control switch in the Resume position,
voltmeter should indicate 12 volts.

4. Connect voltmeter positive lead to pin No. 3 of module electrical connector. Voltmeter should indicate zero voltage with speed control switch in

the Off position and 12 volts in the On or Resume position. With switch in the On position and Set button depressed, voltmeter should indicate
zero voltage.

5. Connect voltmeter positive lead to pin No. 5 of module electrical connector. Voltmeter should indicate zero voltage with speed control switch in

the off position and 12 volts in the On or Resume position.

6. If any test results are not as indicated, check appropriate circuit for proper connections and continuity. If wiring is satisfactory, replace speed

control switch.
