Customer Satisfaction Notification #356 - 2.6L Engine Oil Pump Relief Valve

MODELS:

1984 Plymouth Reliant and Voyager; Plymouth & Dodge Conquest; Dodge Aries, 600, Mini Ram Van, Caravan and D-50 Truck;
Chrysler LeBaron, Town & Country E Class and New Yorker Vehicles Equipped With 2.6L Engines

A limited number of the above 1984 models may experience sticking of 2.6L engine oil pump relief valves due to mis-machined valve bores. This can
lead to excessive oil pressure, rupturing of oil filters and loss of engine oil on affected vehicles..

To prevent such failures, vehicles known by engine build code to have the incorrect bores must be repaired by installing new relief valve plungers of
slightly modified end dimensions.

The vehicle population is defined in the following section. Information to assist in completion of repairs is included in the Service Procedure section of
this letter (A. Domestic Vehicles; B. Imported Vehicles).

Each dealer to which involved vehicles were invoiced will receive listings (separate for domestic and imported models) with this letter, arranged in
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence. Owners known to Chrysler are also listed. The information is for dealer reference in arranging for
service of involved vehicles.

Dealers without Vehicle Lists will receive information copies of this letter, for use in performing the required service on other involved vehicles upon
request.
Parts

Oil pump relief valve replacement parts packages, Recall Part Number C3940248, are being mailed free of charge to all involved dealers before owner
notification. Each dealer will receive enough of these parts to service 100% of the vehicles shown on the corresponding Vehicle Lists. Additional
requirements may be ordered without charge from parts depots when initial supplies have been exhausted. Please do not place additional orders before
existing supplies are used.

Each parts package C3940248 contains the following items:
