Steering column cover, silencer & reinforcement removal

Turn signal switch replacement

Lock plate removal. Models w/tilt column

1. Remove steering wheel. Refer to ``Steering Wheel, Replace'' procedure.
2. Remove steering column cover, silencer and lower reinforcement.
3. Pry off wiring trough from steering column, then disconnect turn signal/hazard warning switch electrical connector.
4. On models equipped with standard column, proceed as follows:

a. Remove wiper/washer switch-to-turn signal switch pivot attaching screw. Leave turn signal lever in its installed position.
b. Remove 3 bearing retainer and turn signal switch-to-upper bearing housing attaching screws.

5. On models equipped with tilt column, proceed as follows:

a. Remove plastic cover, if equipped, from lock plate.
b. Depress lock plate using tool No. C-4156 and pry retaining ring out of groove with a suitable screwdriver. The full load of the upper bearing

spring should not be relieved. If the full load is relieved, the retaining ring will turn too easily and make removal difficult.
