Fuel Pressure: Testing and Inspection
Vacuum Test
NOTE: Wrap shop towels around the inlet and outlet fittings of the fuel pump as the lines are removed to soak up any fuel that spills from the lines and
fittings.
1.
Disconnect the inlet and outlet line from the fuel pump.
2.
Connect a vacuum gauge (0-25" Hg of vacuum) to the fuel pump inlet fitting.
3.
CRANK the engine several times while observing the reading on the vacuum gauge. The fuel pump should produce at least of 11" Hg of vacuum,
readings as high as 22" Hg of vacuum may be seen.
4.
If the fuel pump doesn't produce at least 11" Hg of vacuum, then the pump is defective and needs to be replaced.
5.
Reconnect the fuel line to the outlet fitting of the fuel pump and check for leaks.
