Brake Master Cylinder: Service and Repair

1.

Position a drain pan under the master cylinder.

2.

Disconnect electrical connector from reservoir, if equipped.

3.

Loosen brake lines at top of the proportioning valve, then disconnect brake lines from the master cylinder. Plug all lines and fittings.

4.

Remove master cylinder-to-brake booster attaching nuts.

5.

Remove proportioning valve mounting bracket.

6.

Pull master cylinder outward and away from brake booster.

7.

Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Use caution during master cylinder to brake booster installation. The primary piston protrudes beyond the end cap, and may be damaged if not

centered to the booster cavity.

b. Torque brake lines to 11-15 lb-ft, master cylinder to booster nuts to 9-13 lb-ft, and proportioning valve bracket to 4-6 lb-ft.
c. Bleed hydraulic system, refer to HYDRAULIC SYSTEM BLEEDING & FLUSHING.
