Manifold Pressure/Vacuum Sensor: Testing and Inspection
MAP Sensor Description
1.
Inspect the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor vacuum and electrical connections at the sensor and throttle body, repair as necessary.
2.
Measure the voltage present at the MAP sensor connector terminal "B" with the ignition switch ON and the engine OFF. Available voltage should
be between 4 and 5 volts.
3.
START the engine and allow the idle to stabilize. With a warm engine and the transmission in PARK/NEUTRAL, check for available voltage at
terminal "B". Voltage should now be between 1.5 and 2.1 volts. Shut OFF engine.
4.
Check voltage at terminal "B" of the MAP sensor and at Engine Control Unit (ECU) terminal "C-6". The voltages should be the same. If the
voltages differ, repair the wiring harness as necessary.
5.
Check the voltage at MAP sensor connector terminal "C" with the ignition ON. The voltage should be between 4.5 and 5.5 volts. Check the
voltage at ECU terminal "C-14". The reading should be the same as at MAP sensor terminal "C". If it is not, repair the wiring harness as
necessary.
6.
Check the MAP sensor ground circuit at sensor connector terminal "A" and ECU connector terminal "D-3", repairing the wiring harness as
necessary.
