Throttle Position Sensor: Description and Operation
Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), mounted on the throttle body, is spined to the throttle shaft. The sensor receives a reference voltage of
approximately five volts. The sensor is a variable resistor and operates between 1 volt (idle) and 4.5 volts (wide open throttle). The Engine Control Unit
(ECU) receives the voltage signal from the throttle position sensor and converts it to throttle shaft angle opening. The ECU uses the throttle position
sensor signal to determine engine operating parameters.
