Axle Bearing: Service and Repair
Hub & Bearing Inspection
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove rear wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove plastic cap from brake drum.
4. Bolt dial indicator to rear brake drum using dial indicator adapter ROU541.
5. Measure axial play at end of axle shaft. Axial play should not exceed 0.001 inch. If play exceeds this measurement, replace hub & bearing
assembly.

NOTE: If wheel bearing must be replaced, the hub and bearing assembly must be replaced as a unit.
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove rear wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove safety nuts securing brake drum to axle shaft hub.
4. Remove plastic hub cover using suitable screwdriver.
5. Remove brake drum from axle shaft hub.
6. Remove axle shaft hub locknut.
7. Remove wheel hub and bearing assembly from vehicle.
8. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Torque new hub nut to specifications.
b. Install O-ring (PN 454339) to hub and bearing cap to eliminate water or dust entering rear wheel bearing.
c. Install brake drum to hub using new safety nuts.
