Excessive Engine Oil Pressure

MODELS:

1995 (AB) Ram Van/Wagon
1995 (AN) Dakota/Dakota Cab & Chassis
1995 (BR) Ram Truck
1995 (ZJ) Grand Cherokee

NOTE:

THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 3.9L, 5.2L AND 5.9L ENGINES.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The engine may exhibit excessively high oil pressure at cold start up. This may lead to distortion of the oil filter casing.

DIAGNOSIS:

Inspect the oil filter case for any signs of distortion. if the case is distorted, perform the repair procedure. Connect an oil pressure gauge to the engine and
start the engine while observing the readings. if the pressure reads above 80 psi, perform the repair procedure. This test must be performed with a cold
engine. The vehicle must be left over night to allow it to cool completely.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves replacing the oil pump.

1.

Using the procedures outlined in the appropriate Service Manual, replace the oil pump.

2.

Replace the oil filter.

3.

Add oil to the engine as required.

3.

Start the engine and verify correct oil pressure.
