Cross-Member: Service and Repair

REMOVAL 

1. Raise vehicle on a hoist and position supports at extreme front ends of the frame rails and lower the hoist. Remove the front wheel and tire

assemblies.

2. Remove front shock absorbers and bushings and retainers.
3. Remove strut bars.
4. Remove coil springs.
5. Install Engine Lifting Fixture C-3487-A and Adapter Rods DD-2179, or equivalents.
6. Remove the retaining nuts from the engine mount insulators.
7. Raise the engine to relieve weight from the crossmember. Remove the bolts and lower the crossmember.
8. Remove lower suspension arms from crossmember.

INSTALLATION 

1. Position the crossmember and install bolts. Tighten bolts to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.).
2. Lower the engine into position and install nuts and washers. Tighten nuts to 102 Nm (75 ft. lbs.).
3. Remove the engine lifting fixture.
4. Install the coil springs.
5. Position lower suspension arms in crossmember. Install the bolts and tighten to specification.
6. Install the strut bars.
7. Install the shock absorbers.
8. Install wheel and tire assembly. Lower the vehicle.
