Wiper Motor Linkage: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Remove the wiper arms from the wiper pivots. (Refer to WIPERS/WASHERS/WIPER ARM - REMOVAL).
2. Remove the cowl plenum cover/grille panel from the cowl plenum. 

CAUTION:  Do not apply pressure to, or pry on, the plastic drive link bushing. When removing the drive link from, or installing the drive link to
the ball stud on the wiper motor crank arm, apply pressure to, or pry on, only the metal portions of the drive link around the bushing. Otherwise,
the bushing may be damaged and the linkage rendered unserviceable.

3. Disengage the wiper linkage drive link bushing from the wiper motor crank arm ball stud by prying the drive link bushing off of the ball stud. Use

two suitably sized screwdrivers, one on each side of the ball stud, and pry between the crank arm and the metal portion of the drive link.

4. Remove the four screws that secure the two pivot mounting flanges to the cowl top panel.
5. Working through the cowl top panel access holes, remove the linkage and pivots as a unit from the cowl plenum.

INSTALLATION

1. Working through the cowl top panel access holes, position the wiper linkage and pivots as a unit into the cowl plenum.
2. Install and tighten the four screws that secure the two pivot mounting flanges to the cowl top panel. Tighten the screws to 11 Nm (95 in. lbs.).

CAUTION:  Do not apply pressure to, or pry on, the plastic drive link bushing. When removing the drive link from, or installing the drive link to
the ball stud on the wiper motor crank arm, apply pressure to, or pry on, only the metal portions of the drive link around the bushing. Otherwise,
the bushing may be damaged and the linkage rendered unserviceable.

3. Place a short 19 millimeter or 3/4 inch socket over the capped side of the drive link bushing as an installation tool. Then use channel-lock pliers

to apply enough pressure to the wiper motor crank arm and the socket over the drive link bushing to snap the bushing onto the ball stud. Do not
apply pressure directly to the plastic bushing.

4. Reinstall the cowl plenum cover/grille panel onto the cowl top. 
5. Reinstall the wiper arms onto the wiper pivots. (Refer to WIPERS/WASHERS/ WIPER ARM - INSTALLATION).
