Turn Signal Indicator: Testing and Inspection
The diagnosis found here addresses an inoperative turn signal indicator lamp condition. For any other turn signal problem, refer to Lighting and Horns
/Turn Signal and Hazard Warning Systems for diagnosis. If no turn signal or hazard warning system problem is found, the following procedure will help
locate a short or open in the indicator lamp circuit.
1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Remove the instrument cluster bezel and the cluster assembly. Probe the ground circuit cavity of
the cluster printed circuit wire harness connector 1. Check for continuity to a good ground. There should be continuity. If OK, go to Step 2. If not
OK, repair the open circuit as required.
2. Connect the battery negative cable. Install a jumper wire from the inoperative (right or left) turn indicator circuit cavity of the printed circuit wire
harness connector 1 to a 12-volt battery feed. The lamp should light. If OK, go to Step 3. If not OK, replace the faulty bulb.
3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Unplug the left instrument cluster wire harness connector. Unplug the turn signal
(multi-function) switch wire harness connector. Check for continuity between the inoperative (right or left) turn signal circuit cavities of the left
instrument cluster wire harness connector and the multi-function switch wire harness connector. There should be continuity. If OK, refer to
Lighting and Horns/Turn Signal and Hazard Warning Systems for further diagnosis. If not OK, repair the open circuit as required.
