If when performing Step 3, you did not feel the "pop," attempt to free the seized condition by wrapping the exposed portion of the seat adjuster
lead screw in a shop cloth (Figure 3). Then, clamp onto the lead screw with adjustable locking pliers. Apply rotational torque to the lead screw to
free the seized condition. Only a +/- 5 degrees of rotational torque is required to free the seized condition. Once the seized condition has been
eliminated, immediately reposition the seat adjuster to a new position using the adjustment switch located on the seat side shield, then perform the
Repair Procedure to prevent the condition from reoccurring. If the lead screw is not seized and the front or rear vertical seat track adjuster(s) do
not function, further diagnosis is required. Refer to the appropriate Service Manual Group 8R for information regarding power seat system
electrical diagnosis.

Lubricant, Power Seat Track

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
THIS REPAIR IS COMPATIBLE WITH DAIMLERCHRYSLER'S MOBILE SERVICE PROGRAM AND DOES NOT REQUIRE HOISTS OR
OTHER FULL SERVICE FACILITY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT.

1.

Using a shop cloth, clean all surplus lubrication from both front and rear vertical seat track adjustment lead screws. It may be necessary to operate
the adjustment motor in both directions to remove all of the surplus lubricant.

2.

Once all surplus lubricant is removed, apply a thin coating of Power Seat Track Lubricant p/n 05017414AA to both front and rear vertical seat
track adjustment lead screws. Make sure that the lubricant is applied to the lead screw both fore and aft of the drive nut.

3.

Operate both front and rear vertical power seat track adjusters full up/down at least three times to ensure that the lubrication has worked into the
threads. Wipe off any large globs of the new lubricant.

4.

Position the seat cushion onto the seat track.

5.

Align the mounting holes on the seat cushion mounting bracket with the attachment holes on the cushion.

6.

Install the bolts attaching the cushion to the seat cushion mounting brackets. Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.).
