Installation
Thermostat Removal-5.9L Diesel
Thermostat Seals-5.9L Diesel-Typical
1. Install the outer seal into the machined shoulder on the thermostat housing.
2. Install the thermostat into the machined shoulder next to the outer seal. Note direction of thermostat in image.
3. Position the inner thermostat seal with the shoulder towards the thermostat housing.
4. Install thermostat, lift bracket, seals and housing to the engine as an assembly. Install and tighten mounting bolts to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) torque.
5. Position generator to thermostat housing. Install and tighten mounting bolt to 24 Nm torque. Tighten pivot bolt to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.) torque.
6. Install the check valve hose and hose clamp at thermostat housing.
7. Install accessory drive belt.
8. Connect negative battery cables to both batteries.
9. Fill cooling system and check for leaks.
