SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
CONDITION 1
Vehicles may exhibit a condition where a windnoise whistle occurs from the front of the vehicle. This condition can occur while driving the vehicle at
highway speeds between 45 - 65 mph or at slower speeds when driving into a headwind.
CONDITION 2
Vehicles may exhibit a condition where "torque dimples" occur along the leading edge of the grille opposite of the grille fasteners.
DIAGNOSIS:
CONDITION 1
Attempt to slide a 3"X5" index card between the grille and the hood. If the index card slides freely without contacting the hood or the foam seal that is
placed between the hood and grille, perform the Repair Procedure.
NOTE:
IF THE 3"x5" INDEX CARD DOES NOT MEET THE CRITERIA ABOVE AND THE CUSTOMER IDENTIFIES A WINDNOISE AROUND
THE FRONT GRILLE AREA, A ROAD TEST MAY BE REQUIRED TO CONFIRM THE LOCATION OF THE WINDNOISE. IF IT CAN BE
DETERMINED THAT THE WINDNOISE IS CAUSED FROM A GAP BETWEEN THE GRILLE AND HOOD, PERFORM THE REPAIR
PROCEDURE.
CONDITION 2
Inspect the grille for small dimples located on the painted side of the grille opposite of the grille attachment points. If dimples can be seen on the painted
side of the grille opposite of the grille attachment points, perform the Repair Procedure.
