1, 1997 (MDH 0801XX) THROUGH SEPTEMBER 15, 1997 (MDH 0915XX) AT THE ST. LOUIS ASSEMBLY PLANT (11TH POSITION OF
VIN = J).

DISCUSSION:

Mottled or blotchy paint is a condition where the paint may have an appearance of being sporadically thin or the paint changes from light to dark on the
vehicle. This condition may not be noticeable in all types of lighting. In order to be able to identify a mottled paint condition on a vehicle, the following
inspection procedure was developed. This procedure should be used any time customers complain of blotchy paint.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE:

1.

Wash and dry the vehicle thoroughly, including areas around the wheel well, tailgate opening, and door openings.

2.

Place the vehicle in an isolated area that has direct sunlight.

NOTE: 

THE VEHICLE CANNOT HAVE ANY OTHER VEHICLE OR OBJECT CLOSE BY THAT MIGHT REFLECT OR ALTER THE SUNLIGHT
ONTO THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THIS PROCEDURE CAN ONLY BE PERFORMED ON SUNNY DAYS.

3. Inspect the area of the vehicle that is in direct sunlight for thin, mottled, or blotchy paint. Rotate the vehicle so that panels that were not in direct

sunlight previously are now in direct sunlight. The inspection process is complete when all panels have been inspected in direct sunlight.

4.

Any area that has been diagnosed as thin, mottled, or blotchy can be repaired using a standard sectional paint repair procedure.

NOTE: 

DEALERS MUST FOLLOW DISCLOSURE GUIDELINES AS PRESCRIBED BY THEIR STATE STATUTES FOR ANY REPAIRS MADE TO
A VEHICLE PRIOR TO THAT VEHICLE BEING SOLD. DEALERS MUST CONTACT THEIR ZONE FOR DISCLOSURE FORMS AND
INSTRUCTIONS.
